Happy Jack, AZ—Bruce H Powell, 83, was called home on Sunday, Jan. 2, in Lake Montezuma, Arizona. Bruce was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Moab, Utah. He attended the College of Southern Utah and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Mexico Mission. He returned home and married Delna Swapp on Mar. 10, 1962, in the Temple of St. George, Utah.
Bruce followed 3 previous generations of traders by managing trading posts for Babbitt Brothers Trading Company on the Navajo and Hopi reservations from 1961 to 1976. He was fluent in Spanish, Hopi, and Navajo. From 1976 to 2018, Bruce and Delna owned and operated Long Valley Service and Clint’s Well gas station in Happy Jack, AZ. During their 60 years of marriage, they split their time between Las Vegas, NV, Happy Jack, AZ, and Lake Montezuma, AZ.
Bruce is survived by his wife Delna, siblings Kenneth, Phyllis, Myrna (Buzz), and children Sheila, Raquel (Rich), DuShane, and DuWayne (Sharon). He is preceded in death by his parents, Lehi Jay Powell and Alice Huffman Powell, his brothers Gordon and Max, and his granddaughter Ruby Henson. Bruce's surviving extended family includes 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 11:00 am with a viewing from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 360 S. 5th St., Camp Verde, AZ. Interment will be at Fredonia Cemetery in Fredonia, AZ. Arrangements were made with Bueler Funeral Home and Mosdell Mortuary. Condolence may be shared at www.buelerfuneralhome.com
